February - March Bird Bash

Of all the months, February and March are often the most varied and unpredictable. You never know quite what to expect, both at the feeder and at the treetop. Here in the  northeast  it's "shiver me timbers".

White-breasted nuthatch, favored position

Subtle hues, subtle view of the titmouse

The tree sparrow, an occasional visiter

Often seen  , always heard, the name "red-bellied" (f), quite absurd

The crisp presence of a cardinal against a snowy backdrop

The huddled look of a wintering downy

The red-shouldered hawk, with whom we share our acre of land

A bald eagle perched high above the Ashokan Reservoir

Tis been a bitter month, locally...

Chickadee

A shared meal

Carolina Wren

Hairy Woodpecker (m)

Red-bellied Woodpecker: the male, a more difficult "capture"
